On Dec. 22, a consortium composed of China Energy Construction International Corporation, Guangxi Engineering Bureau and Changjiang International Engineering Design Corporation signed an EPC contract with Mapanuepe Hydro Power Corporation (MHPC) for the Mapanuepe 500 MW pumped storage power plant project in the Philippines by way of cloud signing.
The project is located in the vicinity of Mapanuepe Lake in Luzon Province, Philippines, with a total installed capacity of 500 MW. The power station hub mainly consists of the upper reservoir, lower reservoir, water transmission system, underground plant and ground switchyard. After the completion of the power station, it will greatly improve the local power supply and power peaking situation, effectively improve the living standard of local residents, and lay a solid foundation for local clean energy development and ecological environmental protection.
This project is the first large-scale pumped storage power project signed by China Energy Construction International Corporation in the Philippines. The signing of this project has realized the continuous development in the Philippine market and laid the foundation for further consolidating and expanding the advantages of hydropower and water conservancy projects in the Philippine market. This is also another breakthrough of China Energy Construction in practicing the "One Belt, One Road" initiative and helping to build the "China-ASEAN" community of destiny.
It is reported that Mapanepo Hydro has rich experience in renewable energy development in the Philippines, and will build three pumped storage power plants near Mapanepo Lake in the future to alleviate the demand for peaking in the local power grid.
